My family line arrived in Nova Scotia as Loyalists, after the War of Independence was over, around 1783. David Withrow was the youngest of three brothers and a sister who were the children of Jacob and Elizabeth (Alder) Withrow. Two of the brothers, Jacob and John, received land grants in Hants County, Nova Scotia and even though David was only about 11 years old he also received a smaller land grant. Their sister, Sarah, married George Bond and he apparently sold his land grant and is said to have moved to Ontario. A fourth son, James Withrow, remained behind and is believed to have fought for the Americans. The Withrow family grew in numbers over the next century or so, with many of the Nova Scotia Withrow descendants returning to the United States during the latter part of the 1800s up to the mid 1900s, mainly for economical reasons. There are now very few Withrow members living in Nova Scotia connected with my family lines. I am a retired Junior High school teacher and I have been married to my wife, Alfreda (Emmett) Withrow for nearly 50 years, and we have three children and three grandchildren.
